Phantom of the Goff-era

 A short and sweet post about three Goff orks that got painted recently.

So as you know I have been running through the monopose plastic Goff orks that were in the main base game of 2nd edition and these three are the final ones (unless I find one in a bitz box mangled to near destruction).

However these three required some serious fixing. While one just needed a left arm fixing and a new axe source the other two needed a bit more. Both had no arms and so another search returned some arms, weapons and some makeshift shoulder plates for the right arms.
The last ork had a bigger problem in that the face had been half hacked at or possibly melted? Either way there was no way to salvage that and my painting skills would be struggling.

Ere boss? When u gonna paint us?

To resolve this I first armed him with a plasma gun and then decided after some discussion to go for a half mask in the form of the phantom of the opera. So chopping up an old shield part for a warhammer fantasy skeleton unit I put that over the face.

With the necessary fixes applied it came time to paint the three of them with the tried and tested methods I had used before. I decided the mask was going to be metal and went for a dirty gold look for it. I think it has worked out well in saving the model.

Da boyz got some dakka, then got stuk in to dem beakies. That's how!

That's it for this update, short but fun painting session to get these three orks battle ready, next time maybe some Dreadnoughts or a Grot or possibly something else entirely from the stars..

Original punk orks and other lads

The oldhammer hobby is a mixed bag of fun painting, hard to find models and nostalgia. For me one of these nostalgia moments is the original plastic orks from rogue trader which were given to me as a child from an older cousin.

Specialist hair squigs really bring out the green skin complexion.

These orks were already painted up when I was given them and have remained that way. I never really thought a lot of them once I got my own orks from the 2nd edition box, however they did have cool sunglasses and mohawks so remained in use as another squad. Only now after coming back to my ork army and looking through my collection am I beginning to appreciate these guys and the variety of faces they have.

Having said all that they still needed a fresh coat of paint and some alterations to there arms and weapons. The result of which you can see above.

"Right where are the rest of the goff ladz at den?"

Also in the paint pile has been some more Goff Orks. If the last lot needed some repairs these guys needed saving from horrible painting cataclysms. You can't see it now but the ork on the left has a weird bobble effect from some spray paint from 20+ years ago.

"Ere to fix ya up, what do ya mean ya need dat leg?"

Now this Ork Painboy has actually appeared before on this blog. Way back in 2017 he got in on a photo with two other orks. (Check it out here!) However I was never really happy with him. I felt the colour scheme was too similar to all the other standard ork boyz. So he's had a new lick of white/bone paint to imply he is some sort of doctor.

"Forgot Doc's toolz, never a grot around when ya need 'em"

A bit of red/green stains on his apron add a little character to the miniature. The back has always had this blue eyed skull logo and I decided to leave it on him.

Dungit is much better now. No I didn't just hit im wiv a hammer!

A final shot of all the orks together including another madboy. I took some solo photos of him but hey came out blurry. Guess you will have to wait for me to paint some more for a closer look at that ork.

More Goff Orks get painted

This will be a very quick showcase post on the blog. With the dreaded Covid-19 Virus lurking out there in the streets like some sort of abomination spawned from Papa Nurgle himself, it has been a great time to get the paints out and work on some miniatures.

"Ahh, turn dat flash off ya git! Bright enuff up here in dis snow!"

As is always the case when it comes to dusting off the brushes, I am always drawn to something simpler to paint. Often the classic Goff Orks from the 2nd edition box get the honour. Anyone who has been following this blog will know I have already painted quite a few of them and today four more join the ranks.

These four are the kind of plastic goff ork that got raided for parts back in my youth. Arms, weapons and even helmet spikes got removed for some other project or idea. The rest of them then got dropped in the bitz box where they remained until recently.

Right ladz, better now we can see.

On fishing the four main bodies out it was clear not one of them was complete. Three had issues with there left arm, whilst the last one was entirely 'armless (Ere' dat not funny!).

A quick root around and some new arms and weapons were found and attached. Even if one was part of a damaged lasgun and the mace end of a heroquest orc.

I painted them up with the standard technique I have been using which can be found in the Links and Showcases bar on the right of this blog.

An Ork, a Mek and a Goff walk into some Gretchin.

Summer is here, time for some ork goodness. How much ork goodness you ask, well three orks and a couple of lowly gretchin.

Been a little while since a major post so let's get going with some 40k Orks just in time for Orktobe.... OK well I may have missed the traditional ork month but that doesn't mean the Orky goodness has to stop, just ask Nazdreg.

Telescope bionic eye? Why is that not a thing??

Why Nazdreg? Well today we are going to be looking at my special character inspired freshly painted Boss man.

No not him, we are not in Cobb County, Georgia

Yes Slegg Bloodnug has finally got a miniature painted up again, that didn't take long did it, hmmm I started this blog in 2015.

I used the original Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub model with a slight conversion. Never really liked how he is waving his power fist in the air, as if to say "Hey look at me!" Also isn't he supposed to have a power claw like the art above suggests?

Goff Orks on the move!

Been a while since our last meeting explorer ... but as the wintry nights begin to get lighter I have been painting up more of my 2nd Edition Orks. You may even have seen an early progress image in a previous post. All of these orks have had some form of  historical yet innocent damage in there lifetime. Normally this could be an issue but these monopose Goffs are in need of a little bit of character. Alas due to it being a bit grim outside I am without decent natural light so these images may not be the best. (Note to self to update with better photos).

This here is Hobstob, he lost his normal bolt pistol arm (it's probably in my bits box) so it was replaced with a normal ork arm and bolt pistol from the old sprue you used to be able to get.

Old Ruins complete and occupied by Goffs.

A while ago you may have read about some old ruins I was making, well they did get finished so I thought I should give them an appearance here.

The devastated building will go nicely with skull tower.

July is a busy time (Wait it's August?)

Still here, still going to post updates ...

July is one of those months where everything happens for me. Thus I have not had a lot of time for the oldhammer hobby or anything else worth posting about. However just to keep this going I'll put up a couple of images:

Here are all the orks I have painted up so far, from the Goffs to the Runtherd and even the Boss himself at the back (he's not quite finished yet).

Also one of my favorite models has been dunked and had the paint removed ready for a new paint scheme, but it is no Ork:

We will find the Orks and slay them!

Yep a Dire Avenger Exarch, fantastic model (as I mentioned in my top ten) and one I hope to paint up very soon.

Yep another Ork based post,hope you are enjoying them as much as I am painting these greenskins. Not really tried my hand at Snakebite style colour scheme before but gave it a good old go. Here is the classic Snakebite Runtherd a great looking model.

Inspiration for an Ork Waaagh!

As you may have noticed I have been painting up some 2nd Edition Orks over the last few months, mostly Goffs so far but the Snakebite clan is next on the list. with that I thought it might be nice to dive back a few years and take a look at a particular set of images from a White Dwarf that I found really inspiring then and now.

It's Warboss Grishnak! So colourful!

This showcase is from White Dwarf 201 (It had a night goblin riding a Giant Squig on the cover) and is Adrian Wood's own 2nd Edition 40k Ork army.

Zoggin 'Eck! More Orks!

That's right more Goff Orks to join the one I painted a week or so ago. Including a heavy weapons specialist and the former Slegg Bloodnug model  who is now just a nob with chainsword to lead them, oh yes.

Ere' why we out in da snow, boss?

Yea' boss my squig pie is gettin cold!

Here are the first two lads, the one on the left lost the handle for his axe but he's still ok. The one on the right had some odd stuff happening with his axe arm which is why it is at a tilt.

Ya' feelin cold Rotgub? Go stand next to Wazzik, he'll warm you up.

The original Slegg Bloodnug with chainsword conversion, many the time he charged down a bunch of space marines only to be shot repeatedly, ah memories.

I'm not going near that fing boss, Wazzik will get us all killed!

I 'erd that Rotgub! Dis ere' kannon is for when those oomies show up.

One of the older heavy weapons orks you can get, painted up in Goff style armed with a pistol and a Heavy Plasma Cannon. Really do like this model plenty of character and the heavy plasma gun is nice and bulky. He will certainly help when the Imperium brings out the tanks or worse to trouble the lads. Turn to high power and hope he doesn't fry the lot of them when it malfunctions.

Shut your traps lads, we need to find Gitglum, boss wants his scout report. C'mon!

These four are a right motley crew ready to get up close and personal with the enemy. Had a lot of fun painting up these four even if three of them are just the orks from the 2nd edition box set with some minor changes made.

Where are those Orks, did they get lost in the warp? ...

For a blog that features the name of my ork Warboss there is a distinct lack of orks or anything orky being posted on here. Let's see if I can bring the Waaagh back ...

When I first got into miniature gaming all those years ago my introduction was Heroquest & Space Crusade, this was followed by a trip to a Games Workshop in Hammersmith, the Dalling Road store. To say 9 year old me was overwhelmed would be an understatement and after looking around I came away with a blister pack of two Giant Black Orcs, these two to be specific.

However while I was marvelling at all the miniatures, boxed games and the two big orcs I now had for use in Heroquest (I tried painting one of them at the time but it was a disaster), my dad must have been enquiring about what to was the next big thing and for that Christmas later in the year a copy of 2nd Edition Warhammer 40k arrived!

One box, lots of war!

Now a friend of mine at the time already had a copy and had started on his path to being the Emperor's chosen and had begun to paint the space marines (he'd go on to field Imperial Guard and Dark Angels) which left me with the Orks. Which is good because they seemed a lot more fun than those goody two shoe marines. So I had a bunch of over 20 Goff Orks and 40 Gretchin to paint, only about 10 or so grots got any paint in the end. But soon they were joined by a Dreadnought, a bad moon weirdboy + 2 minderz, a mekanik, a painboy and some Snakebite boarboyz. You may be wondering about a warboss and for quite a while my Ork army was led by one of the Goff Orks who I'd given a chainsword from one of the space marine captains. This was my first conversion and also the first appearance of Slegg Bloodnug.

"We're gonna blast dem ummies with dakka!"

But for now here are three orks I have painted up. First is a standard ork boy who's gone and nicked M. Bisons hat. The second is a Goff ork from the box who I hope will soon be joined by three more including a redone Slegg. The ork on the right is a Painboy ready to fix up the other two or just get stuck in himself.

Closer shot of the Goff ork. Followed a tutorial for painting Goff Orks which was really good. I had to substitute a few paints and things along they way but I like how it turned out.
